The tools give you access to a secure Chat GPT service that can help you understand, improve and create texts using artificial intelligence (AI). Sikt's version is similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, but it better ensures your security and privacy. Sikt KI-chat can be used in both Bokmål, Nynorsk, and English. You can change the language in the settings inside Sikt KI-chat.

How can you use the tool?

There is no definitive answer on how to use artificial intelligence tools. It is important that you familiarize yourself with available guides to get ideas and knowledge on how to use AI chat services effectively.

Remember to be critical of sources. You are always responsible, even when using various tools in your work. The University Library at OsloMet offers courses in source criticism. Also read the policy on the use of artificial intelligence at OsloMet.

    Examples of use

    • As a sparring partner to generate new ideas
    • To get feedback on something you’ve written or thought about
    • As an assistant when coding or performing calculations
    • To improve and correct language in assignments you write
    • As a study buddy or colleague who simplifies complex theory
    • To summarize the essence of a long text
    • As a translator between languages
  • Choose GPT model

Chat GPT services normally allow you to choose between different language models. Some models may perform better for certain tasks. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with this in advance.

    Sikt KI

You can choose and control which model you use in the Sikt KI chat. When logged in, you should be able to see and select the model in the top left corner. As of November 2025, Sikt KI offers GPT-5, GPT-5 nano, and GPT-4o.

    GPT UiO

It is possible to select a model just below the chat window. As of November 2025, you can choose between GPT-4o mini and GPT-5.

    Microsoft Copilot

Copilot normally uses one of the latest available models from OpenAI. As of November 2025, GPT-4 is used by default, with the option to try GPT-5. Check the settings in the top right corner when logged in for available options.

  • Help and resources

    User Support

OsloMet does not offer extended user support for either Copilot or Sikt AI Chat. Please refer to the relevant resource pages provided by SIKT and Microsoft.

    Importing and Exporting Conversations

You can import and export conversations yourself. The options for import and export are available in the left-hand menu. Select Advanced view under “Settings” if you do not see the import and export options.

    Source Criticism

GPT as an AI model is trained to be neutral and objective, but the underlying algorithms base their responses on the data the solution was trained on. It may also reproduce short texts written by others without clearly indicating the source. As a result, texts generated by the solution may contain protected intellectual property. It is therefore essential to apply strong source criticism.
